SOFT-STORY RETROFIT PROJECTS
PROJECT #1
This was a two story Unreinforced Masonry building that was retrofitted by installing anchors
around the perimeter of the roof and the second floor. A steel moment resisting frame was
installed at the front of the building. It was installed in such a way that was hidden from the
outside. The back windows were infilled and reinforced with bricks, steel and concrete. Then the
wall was gunited to add the additional shear panels, anchors and hold down. The wood tower was
tied to two steel beams that spammed across the building. The beams ends were connected by a
positive connection to the walls to prevent any movement of the beams and or the tower.

PROJECT #3
This was a two story wood structure which was classified as a soft story building. It was retrofitted by
installing moment frame in one direction and concentric brace frame in the other direction. Finished
work was done in such a way that seismic work was completely concealed leaving the property owner
satisfied with the finished project.
